Waste less, save money and help the environment.

We’re always looking at ways we can help you when it comes to reducing food waste – whether that’s in store or at home. We aim to provide you with as much information as we can about storing your food so less produce ends up in the bin.

Storing food correctly means it will last longer and stay fresher. Not only will you waste less at home, you will save money and help protect the environment.

As we look at introducing more plastic-free produce in our stores, it’s important that you know how to look after it when you get it home.

Here are some tips on storing your produce at home:

  1. Potatoes should be stored in a cool, dry place away from onions. They will last up to one month.
  2. Bananas and tomatoes can live in the fruit bowl. Keep bananas away from other fruit you don’t want to ripen.
  3. Root vegetables (carrots, parsnips etc) should be stored in a fridge crisper drawer.
  4. Cereal, rice, pasta and flour can be stored in a cupboard in an airtight container.
  5. Bread should be stored in a cupboard or in a bread box.
  6. Berries, cauliflower, celery, lettuce and courgettes should all be stored in a fridge crisper drawer.
  7. Meat belongs on the bottom fridge shelf, sealed well to prevent leakage.
